Words as Witnesss: the language of political struggle
Hurriyyah Collective is calling all poets and dreamers committed to using their art in service of liberation to join us for a writing workshop on the language of political struggle and the responsibility of the artist in times of crisis.
Using examples of writings from the Palestinian liberation movement, to the African freedom struggle, to the National Democratic movement and beyond, we will study the historic role of poets and artists in revolutionary struggle, and write in response to prompts that ask us to put our dreams and visions for a liberated Palestine to ink.
We will study the weaponization of language to delegitimize the Palestinian struggle and the necessity for militant precision and clarity in times of catastrophe. We will uplift our collective responsibility to use language to bear witness to injustice, indict the forces that conspire against life, and how, most importantly, language must give way to action because there are no words big enough to hold the horrors of this unfolding genocide, no words big enough to hold our hopes and dreams for a Free Palestine.
