Resistance is Happening Now: Archiving the Black Lives Matter Movement
The month of August has been known as Black August to civil rights activists since 1979, becoming a time to reflect and uplift Black liberation while commemorating community leaders.
The BLACK Gallery powered by Don’t Shoot Portland presents Resistance Is Happening Now: Archiving the Black Lives Matter Movement, a showcase that honors the ongoing struggle for human rights by centering the solidarity and advocacy work of local organizers. The exhibit features local protest photography spanning over a decade of Portland community action alongside evidential documents that illuminate the various and pervasive inequalities found within the structures and institutions of American society.
Resistance Is Happening Now: Archiving the Black Lives Matter Movement is up from August 1 through October 3.
Visits are by appointment only and can be made at theblackgallerypdx.com Thursday through Sunday from 12 to 5pm. Learn more about our work at dontshootpdx.org
