Grit & Grain is a group exhibition that brings together more than 50 contributors to celebrate five years of print work made at nůn studios since its founding in early 2020. Specializing in risograph printing, nůn studios (pronounced “noon”) in Northeast Portland, Oregon offers production, design, distribution support, education, and studio access to counter-hegemonic voices.

The exhibited works come from a wide range of community members and organizations, including ten diptychs from artists and writers selected for nůn studios’ inaugural portfolio, Grit & Grain: 5 & 5Sharita Towne pens the colophon, in which she states the show and portfolio share the title Grit & Grain as “an ode to ancestral grit, grain as food, as paper, as film, as dirt, as direction, as particle, texture & time.”

Featuring works by the people and projects that have brought the studio to life, Grit & Grain dovetails with the studio’s efforts to fundraise both for its operations, and for the community causes for which it lends design and print. Follow nůn studios’ Instagram to learn more about their fundraiser.
