Variable West receives grant to support writing about West Coast photography

Variable West is thrilled to announce that we have received funding from Pier 24 Photography to support our mission to publish fearless, rigorous, accessible writing about West Coast art and culture, with a special emphasis on West Coast photography.

The grant will go toward paying writers to cover West Coast photography and photographers and we’re delighted to be able to offer double our normal writers’ rates (see our Call for Pitches page for all our rates and details on how to submit a pitch).

About Pier 24 Photography

Located on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, Pier 24 Photography provides a quiet, contemplative environment for viewing photographic works. Pier 24 Photography houses the permanent collection of the Pilara Foundation, which is dedicated to collecting, preserving and exhibiting photography. They seek to engage the community through exhibitions, publications, and public programs, and they welcome members of the public, academic institutions, and museum groups for self-guided tours that last up to two hours. Pier 24 Photography is free and open to the public Monday through Friday by appointment.
