Press Release
In the misty morning, ideas are living breathing things dislodged from a vigilant and insomniac rationality. Sleepy is an exhibition of new work by Elliott Jamal Robbins and Shelley Turley, two painters who work through liminal states. Minds adrift birth disparate connections and complicated and unresolved narratives. In Crawling, an erect caterpillar conflates Robbins’s interests in pre Disney comic artist George Herriman, minstrelsy and Hollywood creature design. Turley’s Mothers and Sons centers the tiniest of cats in an intimate familial portrait. A moment looking out from the hearth, a guitar waiting to be strummed, nostalgia scratching at the door. Sit up and rub your eyes, morning is here in the murk.
