Sewn Threads, Cut Threads: an exhibition by Portland SWANA Stitch
JOIN US in celebrating SWANA Textile Art! We will be sharing stitches from Palestinian Tatreez, to Egyptian Khayamiya appliqué, to Armenian Janyak needle lace and many other regional stitches.
Featured will be works drawing from multiple artistic disciplines, both ancient and modern, including writing, multimedia, propaganda, visual and plastic art, and inter-and-multi-disciplinary works.
This event is part of the Portland Textile Month’s Mixed Identities Festival. It is our first time participating and we hope first of many to come.
Portland SWANA Stitch is a mixed community of SWANA folk who gather each month to stitch together our traditions, communities and futures.
We are excited to be part of The Portland Textile Month and to share our community space @swanarosepdx with the wider public. (We will be selling wine to raise funds for our center at the opening event!)
We want to acknowledge that this event takes place at hard moment for our artists, organizers and our community, and we are proud to do what our people have always done in hard times: organize, gather, make art, and feed each other in all the ways our people do.
Please join us in solidarity on our opening night and share our event with your community.
