Quint Gallery is excited to announce a survey exhibition of selected works by San Diego-based artist Kelsey Brookes created over the last 12 years. Consisting of 13 paintings and sculptures, the exhibition highlights work beginning from
Kelsey’s first show at Quint in 2009 and extending through his latest 2021 Tapestry series. All of the works in this exhibition are on loan from private collections and public institutions, and the full exhibition title is the accumulation of the names of each of Brookes’ exhibitions with Quint Gallery.
Often characterized by the influence of his early years as a molecular biologist, Even Bigger, Brighter and Bolder Serotonin, Happiness and Spiritual States Achieved Through Fibonacci, Waveforms and Capsid Symmetries by Way of Perception and Hallucination. His practice takes ideas and forms found in molecular structures, number sequences, and logic, and grants non-scientists access to the invisible world of atoms, which make up everything that ever has been or will be. Vividly colored and meticulously painted abstractions of drug compounds expand the viewer’s sensorial reaction, while the act of looking prompts reactions akin to altered states of mind achieved through deep meditation or hallucinatory substances.
