This exhibition, drawn almost entirely from TAM’s own collection, demonstrates how in America between 1900 and 1950 artists strove to define new, distinctly American styles. They rejected conservative European and American influences—notably the French Impressionists and New York’s National Academy of Design—in favor of work that spoke to their lives and times.
